Since I was a kid I used to love Hot Rods and “old” cars. My neighbors back in Ohio used to take old Chevy’s and stuff huge Olds V8 engines in them and go racing down the road. It was super exciting to me. They were wizards at coming up with crazy fast cars.
I have had one hot rod and an old 68 Triumph bike, but for the first time in my life I finally have a classic old truck. My project is to bring this nice 56 ford F100 up to the point being able to drive it and be an active club member with the Asphalt Angels. My wife Rosa and I both love our truck and anxious to get the baby on the road. To start with the main thing is that it needs immediate TLC, sooner or later a paint job, and eventually custom interior.
I bought the truck from my brother-in-law who due to health issues had not driven it in several years and finally decided to sell it to me. He needed some money for medical expenses and to save his home from foreclosure. He sold it to me for what he paid for it many years ago. Originally the truck came from California and my brother-in-law babied this truck. Testimony to his stewardship while owner is that there is almost no rust on it since he never drove it in the rain or in the winter.
With a little work I was able to start it and get it loaded up on a trailer to make the trip from Toledo, Ohio to Bowie Md. on the 4th of July this year. I had no problems getting it home, unloaded, and into my home’s attached garage. There it waits for me every night to get home for some TLC, as time allows.
I like to start it hear the roar of the 351 Cleveland and roll it out so I can work on it then put it back in at the end of the session. The neighbors are all curious and stare at the old Hot Rod. Some stop by to admire at the way trucks used to be made, strong, simple, and beautiful.
Hopefully by the end of this week I will have it tagged and insured. I am working on necessary paper work to get this all done and lining up some parts that need to be replaced. I will be driving it to the Monday get together at Glory Days Grill ASAP. I have included some photos of “La Colorada” so you can see it as I got it. This truck will steadily improve as time goes on. I am already proud of her.
